We are in Cheyenne,  Wyoming and will be here for 2 nights. We drove 230 miles today in cool but partly sunny weather. We left the Interstate for 120 miles to follow the old Lincoln Highway.  Our first stop was at California Hill where some of the Oregon and California trail wagons left the Platte River and headed north over the sand hills.
We spent several hours in Sidney, Nebraska visiting the museum for old Ft Sidney built to protect railroad workers and settlers from Indians. The Union Pacific RR ran track through the area in 1867 on it's way west to Promintory Point where it met up with the Central Pacific tracts laid eastward ftom Sacramento,  California. And speaking of trains, we passed 9 in a 50 mile stretch of western Nebraska.
We saw the Rocky. Mountains for the first time this afternoon!
Hope you are enjoying our blog.
