Last Union Pacific cut (notice original piles of dug out stone). Dual cuts through a rock (one Union Pacific, one Central Pacific). The jeep in road cut bed of the original transcontinental railroad. A natural arch by the roadbed.

  1. I see it! The natural archways are very neat. I forget we have some right here in our Michigan U.P. too! Speaking of the U.P. I just read an article that said the population of the U.P. Is steadily declining. The older folks that worked in mining and logging are dying off along with those types of industries. Young people are moving away to find reliable work. Towns are losing their grocery stores, gas stations, etc. and therefore losing its residents. I hope towns that support tourism can stay alive. I've always loved that the U.P. Is like a secret place of natural beauty that not many people know about.

  2. Very interesting, Jeanie. Declining population will make the U.P. even more wild and mysterious. Meanwhile, so many of our cities are becoming bloated with too many people and cars -- and pollution. As happened near Denver, my eyes were burning as we drove the Interstate by Salt Lake City which has a huge refinery.
