Day 13, Mexican Hat to Monument Valley and back, 80 miles. 17 of those miles were on the roughest, rocky road we have been on. The dashboard lights went on several times when the tires left the road. It took us 2 hours to drive the 17 miles. But the views were spectacular, the many monotiths amazing. The rough road must keep the large wheeled tour vehicles in business as only the brave drive it on their own. We also visited an early trading post and the house used by John Wayne in one of his western movies. Numerous classic westerns old and new have been filmed in the valley.
We both had Navaho dishes for lunch with fry bread, delicious. We were surrounded by people speaking in many different languages.
We have traveled over 2000 miles so far. Tomorrow we go to Page, AZ, almost all the way on the Navaho Reservation.

  1. Sounds like the trip of a lifetime and this is just one of many adventures for you! If you post anymore gorgeous pictures my mind will be blown. It's a nice reminder how much natural beauty still exists on our planet, and right here in the US to boot!

  2. These pictures remind me that we really do need to plan a trip out west. The scenery is stunning. It's easy to forget how amazing our country is! And I love the yellow shirt!
