Still in Tucson.  Today, we drove just 20 miles, round trip, to OLD TUCSON STUDIOS where hundreds of Western movies and TV series were filmed.  It is an entire town of movie sets.  The last major filming there was in 2016.  The first was in 1939 when the movie Arizona was shot.  The place is now open several days a week and has become a major tourist attraction.  In the past, all the major Western heros, including the likes of John Wayne, James Garner, Paul Newman, Ronald Reagan, Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger,  etc. performed here in many of the most famous Western movies and TV series (e.g., Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Little House on the Prairie, Maverick, Grizzly Adams, etc.).  Even The Three Amigos was made at Old Tucson Studios.
The drive from Tucson itself to the studio town is pretty exciting.  The road is a curvy roller-coaster 2-lane and it's hard to imagine driving it without a seat belt tightly fastened.
Before leaving, and walking 3.11 miles around the streets of movie sets, we took their miniature train ride that encircles the entire 'town' and gets you into areas not available on foot.
Lunch was at the Del Taco near our Comfort Inn Hotel.
     A very interesting day!
     Tomorrow we head to Phoenix.

  1. Discovered 2 misc bits of info today. Larry Nassar is imprisoned in south Tucson and the Loco weed is a kind of wild poppy.

  3. I saw the pictures before reading the description and thought it looked just like a scene from the movies.

  4. I wonder why Nassar is in Tucson. Better there than here!

  5. I immediately thought of Three Amigos when I saw these photos. (I know, I don't have very sophisticated taste when it comes to Westerns). Funny that you mentioned it being filmed there! What a neat attraction. I can see why it's popular. Sorry dad ended up in that casket. I suppose now I'll have to deal with that package ending up on your front porch?
