Dad surprised me this morning with a bouquet of Mother's Day cards from all of you kids and grandkids and Dad. Thank you for the final piece of the Marie train window. And thank you for starting my day off with a hugh smile. The cards are wonderful and I love all of you!
We drove 208 miles from Chinle, AZ to Grants, NM. We were planning to have lunch in Gallup, NM and then visit some of the trading posts there but they were closed all day Sunday, darn it all, so we drove on to Grants for lunch and spent a few hours at El Malpais Nat Monument nearby. The place is a hugh plain of lava that oozed out and filled a fifty mile long valley between impressive limestone cliffs. We stopped to see La Ventana natural arch and met a group of folks driving a caravan of cool 60s cars. Now we are resting in our room watching the Santa Fe freight trains go by next to old Route 66. Tomorrow we are off to Santa Fe and La Fonda.

  1. We also crossed the Continental Divide today so we are definitely heading east.

  2. Crossed the Divide but still at over 6,500 feet and still going higher as we head toward Santa Fe.

  3. Sorry to hear things were closed up but sounds like you made the beat of it and still had a good day. 😊

  4. I’m glad you had a nice Mother’s Day despite the restaurant being closed. Bummer! That never feels good.
