Just arrived in Rolla MO from Terre Haute, 280 miles.  Nice drive but incredibly strong headwinds the whole way.  The Jeep was getting buffeted like a Cessna in a Puerto Rican hurricane.  Almost.  Lunch at Wendys.
We stopped long enough at the Cahokia Mounds near Collinsville IL to climb up the biggest one, Monks Mound, the biggest prehistoric earthworks in the Americas!  154 steps to the top!  We've done this many times before but never in winds like today!  You had to hold a handrail to keep from getting blown off, no kidding.  Yet it was sunny and warm, 73 F.  Between the sun and the wind it was difficult to take pics but I think Mom finally got a couple (with me holding on to her so she wouldn't go sailing off to another mound!
We're not within walking distance of an eatery so it may just be some snack stuff for "dinner".  Not sure.  Tomorrow we head to Tulsa.  That's it for now.  Take care guys.

  1. So you had to rub in the fact that it was 73 there. In PA we had snow and 32 this morning. Every week winter keeps hanging on. Be glad you got out of Dodge. Wait- you're heading to Dodge in your Jeep.

    1. Out here we're in shirtsleeves and the AC is going full blast as we cruise the increasingly verdant landscape while listening to Mick belt out SATISFACTION!

  2. It's not easy being your friend. You really test me, you really do.

BTW, Satisfaction was the first 45 I bought, back in 65. Not a bad first choice.

  3. Very jealous of your weather! We’re still sitting under several inches of snow here in Northern Michigan. I have seen many new bird species at our feeders in the last couple days. I think they are desperate for food!
