Day 14: 32 miles local in St Paul  today. We first went to Fort Snelling build in 1820 for the fur trade and expanded through the Indian wars, WWI and WWII. The commandant ' s house is the oldest in the state. Several dozen slaves lived there until the Civil War including Dred Scott (look him up if you don' know about him and his legal case). It is an impressive place high on a bluff above the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers.
Then we went to the Minnesota History Center that has lots of interesting exhibits about state history including Prince's Purple Rain suit. By far the best were two interactive simulations. We were "in a cellar for 6 minutes" living through a tornado destroying our house complete with rocking and the roaring noise of wind, breaking glass and crashing furniture.
Then we were in a plane "dropping us airmen over France on D Day" with flack and loud bombs going off, shaking us in our seats  and sending us into a nosedive. Only 3 airmen managed to bail out and live on the real flight.
Much cooler today, 66-70. Showers were expected all afternoon but it rained only while we were in the museum. Lucky so far with weather.  But the worst detours and construction ever. I guess this means Minnesota has money for its damn roads? Our new GPS has been extremely helpful in the complicated city driving.

  1. I want to try those interactive simulations! Very cool. When we went to the air zoo Colin and Liam did the Blue Angels simulator three times in a row! Colin felt sick the rest of the day. Cant imagine why? ;)

  2. I'm not sure I could handle those interactive exhibits! Sounds cool but scary.

I wouldn't do the Blue Angel simulator either, it kinda makes me sick thinking about it!
