Day-36. Hulett WY to Rapid City SD via Deadwood and Piedmont SD.  The scenic loop from Hulett to Deadwood was one we've done before but we were again amazed at the beauty of the rugged Black Hills.  In the historic mountain-town of Deadwood we took a walk down the main street, deep in the gulch that defines the town, and then had a buffet lunch at one of the casinos that now line the main street.  For $11.95 it was all you could eat from a wonderful assortment of dishes ranging from Italian to.prime rib.  From Deadwood we drove to Jim and Peg Aplan's shop in Pidmont, just a half hour from Deadwood.  Their shop is stacked shoulder high with good old Western stuff, including many rare items.  It is tough to move around among the stacks but treasures abound.  We've visited the Aplans several times over the past half-dozen years and it's always fun.  They're  great folks and we swapped stories for about two hours.  Last night we did some story swapping for three hours with Bob Coronato in Hulett.  We didn't get back to the hotel until after 11:00 PM.  We've learned a lot about Western traditions and antiques through our chats with these seasoned, very experienced dealers and collectors.  We'll spend tomorrow in the Black Hills, possibly checking out a museum we didn't have time for today.

  1. Very cool looking town! So classic Old West. I had a dream last night that you got home early and your porch was covered with newspapers. But never fear, all newspapers are inside, neatly organized. I guess that's my brain thinking about you coming home soon?
