Nice day in Santa Fe. Last night we spent an hour relaxing in the lobby listening to a live trio entertaining in the bar.  Today, after a nice breakfast at the hotel, we wandered around the shops buying a few things and brousing a lot of galleries. We relaxed in the hotel for an hour midafternoon and then went wandering again. Picked up some French pastries for dinner in our room later. Beautiful day in the mid 70s. So great to be able to walk everywhere from the hotel and leave our car in the parking lot. Tomorrow we are off to Taos, NM.

View from our room. That is the state capitol building in the distance with the flags.

Our room.

140 miles from Grants to Santa Fe, NM. Temperature in the 70s and sunny. We are staying 2 nights at La Fonda, a Fred Harvey hotel run initially for tourists coming here on the Santa Fe railroad. Fred Harvey ran all the restaurants and cafeterias for the SF rr as well as some of their hotels. I think there were 48 in total from Kansas City to California. Mary Colter, the same architect of La Posada, was the interior designer for this place. Our room overlooks the old Santa Fe trail.
We had a delicious Mexican lunch at the restaurant here and wandered the shops before relaxing in our room. One of the Navajo jewelry artists complemented me on the tourquoise jewelry I am wearing as the black and blue stones are apparently hard to come by now; the mine is closed. We'll do more wandering tomorrow as everything is within blocks of our hotel.
Frosted hair anyone?
